I’m back and our flags are featured in Utterly Engaged!

We are back! We had an amazing trip in Italy- I cannot wait to share photos and more soon (once our lost luggage- with our nice camera inside- gets to us!). The shop is now fully open and we are taking custom orders again.

I came home to some great news- the new issue of Utterly Engaged is live today and our flags are featured in a super fun spread! My friend Jesi Haack invited me to be a part of the shoot and a few different styles of flags were used. Everything is so funky and dreamy!

.

I LOVE how Jesi used our flags in the bike baskets- so cute!!

Check out the whole issue here- it is lovely!

My last photo shoot with Joyful Weddings: A gorgeous white wedding

A couple of weeks ago, Style Me Pretty featured a gorgeous white photo shoot that I had the privilege to be a part of. It was my last photo shoot as a part of Joyful Weddings & Events and it was wonderful to work with Bre along side of a stellar vendor team.

The inspiration was modern white lace mixed with floral paintings of Georgia O’Keeffe. Kristy of Momental Designs was the genius behind this and her hand-drawn designs on everything from the invite, to the table runner, to stripes of paper woven throughout the floral designs were absolutely beautiful. You can see the full post here and the gallery here.

Here is the inspiration board Kristy put together that started our designing and planning:

A metallic wedding

When I send off our custom flags, I often never get to see the weddings they end up in. Every once in a while, the bride will send me photos. Then sometimes, I stumble upon the weddings on a blog and get so thrilled to see my products in action!

Earlier this year, I received a unique request for a flag- all metallics, which I had never done before. I loved how it turned out- silver glitter paper with gold accents. Still in our simple, clean style, so it was not gaudy or over the top.

I loved this wedding! Totally different & lovely! It was featured on Wedding Chicks. You can see more of the wedding here.

A papel picado inspired banner, featured in The Knot

Last year, my friend Christina, who is the amazing lady behind Simply Modern Weddings, asked me to create a couple of banners for one of her clients. They wanted the banners to be inspired by papel picado banners, which was a fun challenge for me. I loved how they turned out- bright, fun and different.

I was thrilled to find out that the wedding was featured in The Knot Magazine. Here is a quick glimpse at the spread:

One of the banners is hanging in front of the cake display and says, “viva el amor”. The other banner read “viva la vida”. So fun!

You can find out more about this vibrant and creative wedding on Christina’s blog.

Hudson’s First Birthday Party is featured on On To Baby!!

Earlier this week, Hudson’s first birthday party was featured on the lovely blog, On To Baby. You can see the post here!

I’ll be doing a full post about the party next week, but, for now, you can read details and see some of the amazing photos by Jackie Wonders over on the On To Baby blog! Thanks so much for the feature ladies!!

Music Baby Shower

It’s baby shower time again! This one was for my sweet friend Christina of Simply Modern Weddings.

Inspiration came pretty easily for the shower. We knew that, no matter what decor scheme we went with, we would need to incorporate turquoise because that is Christina’s color. From her business branding to the walls in the baby’s nursery, everything is painted in turquoise :)

Christina’s husband is a pianist in a jazz band, so we decided to go with a fun, modern music theme. We threw in yellow to pop against the turquoise and incorporated chevron stripes and hip music graphics. Baby James was given the family name, so he is James the 5th- which his parents have nicknamed “J5″. To highlight this, we used “J5″ on guitar picks throughout the shower.

Lori of Paper & Thread did an amazing job with the invitations and paper goods. She and her team even created a concert-style poster of a bear with a one-man band. It was so cute! Carissa of JL Designs used bright, springy yellow blooms in clean modern white vases, some adorned with ric rac. We also brought some musical items, such as headphones, harmonicas and tamborines into the decor. I spray painted old records to use for banners and also spray painted some guitar picks to toss around.

For food, we wanted to serve upscale bar food, as if our guests were attending one of James’ concerts. We made sliders- both beef and turkey- with a variety of tasty toppings, including grilled onions, avocado and gourmet spreads. Garlic fries and sweet potato fries were served alongside the burgers in chevron paper cones. We decided we needed to have something healthy there- ha!- so we had a salad as well. Guests also munched on nuts and coconut oil popcorn.

The desserts, made by Sweet & Saucy shop, where definitely a highlight. Guests could choose from guitar pick sugar cookies, macarons, lemon raspberry mini cupcakes, passion fruit panna cotta, white chocolate covered rice krispy treats and candy bar cake. So incredibly tasty and cute!

We had guests fill out cards with their wishes for the little guy- a sweet keepsake for Christina. We played name that tune- which was super fun! We split all of the guests into two teams and then had them guess the title and artist of snippets of songs that we played. All of the songs had the word “baby” in the title. Keeping with the music theme, guests took home a CD of modern lullabies that we put together, which Lori of Paper & Thread put into the most adorable stitched CD sleeves.

It was fun but simple and such a sweet time of celebrating J5′s arrival- and just in time! He made his appearance early; only a few days after the shower!

Banners for a Nautical Carlsbad Wedding

I don’t get to see photos of my handcrafted items purchased by brides very often. Every once in a while, a past customer will send me photos of their purchases in use on their wedding day and I love it!

I also love it when I happen upon my designs used in a wedding when I see them featured on a blog. That happened today, when I saw that Mark & Laura’s nautical Carlsbad wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty! Laura had me make three custom banners, all reflecting their clean, modern beach wedding design. She wanted simple navy squares with white writing.

Here is their thank you banner:

A “sweet love” banner for the cake table:

I also made the longest banner I’ve ever created to date. It said, “if you want to know how great my love is, count the waves”. Isn’t that a perfect quote for a beach wedding? I love it! I could not find any photos of the banner in action, but you can see the same quote on their cocktail napkins.

My friend Lori from Paper & Thread created their beautiful invitations and day of paper goods. She is amazing!

It was also fun to see my thank you banner shown again on the thank you notes that Lori created:

You can see their entire wedding over at Style Me Pretty, with photos by Greg Thompson Photography. Here a couple more of my favorites, including some of the cutest bridesmaid dresses I’ve ever seen!

Remember that time when I was on an infomercial?

This is definitely a first.

I am in an infomercial.

Yep.

The good people at ProvoCraft asked if I would be willing to do a short demo and wedding table set up for an infomercial for the new cricut mini. After saying, “Are you serious?”, I jumped on board right away.

It was such a fun and interesting experience. The film crew was amazing- I can definitely get used to being called “the talent” and having a hair & makeup stylist and a wardrobe stylist making sure I look up to par.

Keep an eye out for the infomercial- I don’t have exact times and channels that it will air, but it is all over the place. If you are flipping channels and see the cricut on TV, chances are that is it :) My segment is about 6 1/2  minutes in.

You can also see the whole 28 minute spot on YouTube here.

Here is a look at the DIY project I (very quickly) demonstrated.

That lace backdrop is made out of 7 1/2″ paper squares, cut on the cricut mini and joined together with wire loops. It would look super cute as a photo booth backdrop or behind a cake or dessert display. As I say in the infomercial, “there really are endless possibilities”. Ha! :)

I also designed details for two different wedding reception tables using the cricut. Table numbers, chairbacks, escort cards, menus, vase wraps, etc.

I also made some fun details for a trio of cakes: wraps for the tiers of the main cake (yes- they are paper!), a monogram topper, mini bunting for another cake and I cut a stencil and then stenciled on the monogram in edible glitter on the third cake.

Add in some labels, a flag and banner and you have a wedding infomercial set! Disclaimer for my designer/planner friends: I cannot take credit for the napkins in glasses, overlays or chair sashes :)

My husband laughed for a good 5 minutes at, what he called, my “infomercial voice”. It is pretty funny.

Thanks to ProvoCraft and Raymond Entertainment for having me be a part of it. It was an honor!

Vintage Hollywood Glam Photoshoot

I was thrilled to be a part of a beautiful black, white and gold vintage hollywood themed photo shoot a few months back. Photographer Ashley Bee asked if I would like to donate a banner to the shoot, which would also be given away to a lucky bride. My gold lace mr & mrs banner was a perfect fit and it was so fun to see how the shoot turned out. Everything is gorgeous! You can see more photos and details on 100 Layer Cake.

A couple more looks at the banner:

Thanks Ashley for the beautiful photos!

A sweet garden bridal shower

Get ready for some prettiness.

Last spring, I was thrilled to make a custom banner for a sweet spring bridal shower. The bride-to-be was the lovely Ashley from Be Inspired PR (the best wedding pr girls around!) and the shower was held in a beautifully landscaped backyard in LA. The shower was designed by some of my favorite wedding designer friends, Jesi Haack & Carissa of JL Designs, along with the Be Inspired Girls. My favorite details? A pie station and, for favors, guests potted their own plants. How fun is that?

Here is a glimpse at the goodness. Photos are all by Dave Richards Photography and you can see more on Be Inspired’s blog, Inspired by This.

I made a banner that read, “love in bloom” made out of burlap sewn onto card stock. I love how it was used at the shower!

The shower was featured in Inside Weddings as well- so exciting!
